ABOUT THE UNSPOKEN WORD

My feelings about Poetry Readings are quite mixed.

I have provided my favorite pieces here for the purpose of “Metrics”; mainly to document how I pace the words…and to document the rhythm that I prefer the poems to be read in.

I made the terrible mistake a few years ago of searching for voice recordings of Anne Sexton’s poems (whose words I love dearly).

But you know, the Poet’s Voice does NOT make the poet (nor should it matter)–and I vowed never to again assume that my voice will add anything to the poems themselves.

The voice is the voice, and the poem is the poem. Herewith, I offer the voice and the poem.
