MYSTERY’S CHOIR CLIP: “THE GREEN SCREEN” SCENE

About this Clip:The Green Screen is actually a mind-scape (mental landscape)–located somewhere in between dreams, fantasy, conscious states of redemption and certainly offset from the reality (as we know it).

It is a scene that my audience may never understand. But for me it makes perfect sense. There are situations in life that one may never understand–and in cinema–this should not be an exception.

This scene requires an absorbent amount of reflection on the viewer’s part; and if you’re an unwilling participant, it will require “patience.” For someone who does like meditative slow moving reflective states–it would not require any “patience” at all; none more than sitting in deep contemplation over nothing (which people often mindlessly do while shoving food in their faces for example). The mind is a lazy thing. With art–I want to exercise it.

The Green scene symbolically uses Neon Green as an alchemical tone for change. It represents when things turn rancid (”sour”) in life but also intermediately struggles to transform into beautiful colors. This search for “vibrancy” in a chaotic state of existence is what I wanted to express. The long stares into the camera was intended for the big screen (movie projection)-so that the viewer can be enveloped into the Eyes of the characters. Video and especially internet compression cheapens this experience which was shot totally for film. I had never anticipated this when I shot the film.
